For Neverauskas, 2020 is Now or Never for Major League Career

As we await the start of the 2020 MLB season due to Corona Virus concerns, we will take a look at every player on the Pirates roster and outline what they will bring to the table and projections for the 2020 season. I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Pirates reliever Dovydas Neverauskas's journey to Major League Baseball was one full of excitement and intrigue. He would be the first Lithuanian born pitcher to make it to the major leagues and, his minor league numbers made it look like he might have some success and open the door for many more Lithuanian born players to make their way to Major League Baseball. Neverauskas is only the second Lithuanian player to appear in a Major League game, Joe Zapustas was the other. However, Neverauskas's minor league success has not yet transferred to the Major Leagues, and resulted in the right-hander appearing in just 10 games last season. He started the 2

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching staff went through a lot of changes. Whether it be due to injuries or effectiveness, the Pirates had to constantly run a new starting pitcher out there and ended up using 14 different starting pitchers throughout the season. Despite all the changes, the one consistent presence was Joe Musgrove. Musgrove was the only starter to pitch in more than 30 games and stepped up as the team leader on the pitching staff. As the only player with former World Series experience, the Pirates were counting on him to pass some of his experience down to the younger players to help them in there development. I

Chad Kuhl has not had anything handed to him since being called up to the major leagues during the 2016 season. He made his Major League debut on Sunday Night baseball in front of millions of people across America and, to add to the pressure, he was facing one of the game's top starting pitchers at the time in Clayton Kershaw. He handled the challenge then picking up a win in his debut, giving up three runs over five innings of work, and has tackled every challenge he has faced since then. Kuhl was coming off a year where he proved he could be a full-time Major League starter in 2017 and was looking to take that next step entering the 2018 seas

Keller Looking to Break Out as Bucs Ace in 2020

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. The 2020 season is a big year for Pirates prospect Mitch Keller as he enters his first full season in a big league uniform. Pittsburgh's #1 overall prospect got his feet wet in the majors last season, making 11 starts for the big league club, but now he looks to transition into a staple in the Pirates starting rotation. However, it was a rough start to Keller's major league career. In 11 games, the right-hander went 1-5 with a 7.13 ERA in 48 innings of work while walking 16 and striking out 65 batters. He got called up on May 27th for his big league debut against the Cincinnati Reds and things didn't go as Keller planned. After getting the

Kela Looking to Put Rough 2019 Behind Him; Step Up in Closers Role

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. The 2019 season was one that Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Keone Kela wants to put behind him for several reasons. It started with Kela spending time on the injured list with a right elbow injury, and ended with a number of fines and suspensions from tensions both inside and outside of the clubhouse that resulted in Kela missing nearly three months of the season. However, 2020 is a new year and a new opportunity for Kela to get back on the right track. With the departure of Felipe Vazquez, Kela will be stepping up as the full-time closer for the Pirates. It is not new territory for the 26-year old and it will allow him to be the leader of the bullpen

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. At one time, Clay Holmes was a highly touted prospect that was going to be a part of a young dominant Pittsburgh Pirates starting rotation. He was ranked #10 in the Pirates system entering the 2012 season and was set to join the likes of Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, and Tyler Glasnow as the next generation of young Pirates starting pitching. However, things have not turned out as Holmes planned as injuries derailed his starting pitching career and turned him into a full-time reliever. He made his major League debut in 2018 and quickly went down hill as a starter going 1-2 with a 7.80 ERA in four starts. Moving ahead to 2019, Holmes was fighting for a spot

Feliz Trying to Build Off Career Year in 2020

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. With all of the bullpen struggles the 2019 Pittsburgh Pirates had, one pitcher that flew under the radar was Michael Feliz. He quietly had a career-year and helped bring some good fortune back to his name in the eyes of Pirates fans. After starting the year at Triple-A Indianapolis, Feliz was up and down trough the first two months of the season, but stuck with the Major League roster from June on. He appeared in 58 games for the Bucs pitching to a 3.99 ERA in 56.1 innings of work while walking 27 and striking out 73. His 3.99 ERA was 44 points lower than his previous low and was a good sign for Feliz's future in Pittsburgh. Feliz came to t

Crick Looking To Hold Back-end Role in 2020

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. When Kyle Crick joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 he wasn't the most popular guy on the roster. He and Bryan Reynolds came to the Pirates in the trade that sent Andrew McCutchen to the San Francisco Giants signalling the end of an era that saw the Pirates make the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. Crick was able to alleviate some of those frustrations right away when he appeared in 64 games and pitched to a 2.39 ERA. Most of that work came in big game scenarios and won some big games for the Pirates making fans more open to the trade that sent their star player away. However, 2019 was a different story for Crick. In a season filled

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Entering the 2019 season, not many Pittsburgh Pirates fans knew the name Nick Burdi. However, after the Pirates picked up the left-hander in a trade from the Philadelphia Phillies, fans began to see what the exciting 27 year old could do out of the bullpen. Burdi was picked in the 2nd round of the 2014 MLB draft by the Minnesota Twins and was looking to make an impact at the big league level. After making the Pirates 2019 Opening Day Roster, Burdi came out on fire allowing no more than two runs in each of his first 10 appearances of 2019. He had a 4.32 ERA and went 2-1 while striking out 17 batters in his first 8.1 innings of work. It was beginning to look like

Brault Looking to Find His Voice in 2020

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Steven Brault is one of the most versatile men on the 2020 Pittsburgh Pirates. He can hit, he can throw, and he can sing better than most people. Over the past four years, he has bounced between different roles for the Pirates going from a minor leaguer, to a reliever, to a starter by the end of the 2019 season. He has shown flashes of greatness in each role, but hasn't been able to lockdown anything full-time with the team. Between the bullpen and the starting rotation last season he went 4-6 with a 5.19 ERA while logging a career-high 113.1 innings of work. He struck out a career-high 100 batters and walked a career-low 53 batters in bus seco

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Let's take a look back at July 31st, 2018. The Pittsburgh Pirates sat at 56-52 and were right in the thick of things in the National League Central race. They were looking for a big move to get them over the top and back into the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season. Former General Manager Neil Huntington thought he had his man when he pulled the trigger on a trade that sent Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow, and Shane Baz to the Tampa Bay Rays for Chris Archer, a former Ace and Cy Young Award candidate, to help bolster the starting rotation. Archer came to Pittsburgh with a lot of hype, but ineffectiveness and injuries have le
