Tucker Jumps Out of Bottom Spot With .500 Day in The Show Tournament

As the MLB The Show 20 Players tournament comes down to its final three days, the competitors are vying for playoff spots while everyone else is trying to play spoiler. Cole Tucker jumped out of the bottom spot in the league with a .500 day on Sunday.

Things are starting to heat up in the MLB The Show 20 Players tournament as it comes down to the final three days of competition. The top eight players will advance to the playoffs while the rest will be sent home with $15,000 dollars for their local Boys and Girls Club chapter. As of now, the top eight in the standings are Blake Snell (TB), Joey Gallo (TEX), Bo Bichette (TOR), Gavin Lux (LAD), Jeff McNeil (NYM), Lucas Giolito (CWS), Tommy Kahnle (NYY), and Fernando Tatis Jr. (SD). One name not on that list is Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker.

It hasnt been a good tournament record wise for Tucker, but he has provided some highlight real moments and reactions that have kept us entertained. Entering play on Saturday night, Tucker sat in last place in not only the NL Central, but the entire tournament with a record of 3-16. It was a light Saturday night for Tucker with only two games on his schedule as he looked to battle out of the bottom spot in the field. He started the day taking on one of the top eight, as he battled Gavin Lux from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jameson Taillon got the start for Tucker and gave up a big three-run home run in the first inning that put the Pirates down 3-0. Tucker retaliated in the bottom of the first hitting an RBI single with Josh Bell to bring the score to 3-1. The score stayed the same until the bottom of the third when Adam Frazier hit a sacrifice fly to right scoring Bryan Reynolds and making it a one run game. However, that's all he would get as Josh Bell flew out to end the game and Tucker fell 3-2. The loss dropped him down to 3-17, however, Eduardo Rodriguez of the Boston Red Sox took another loss and Tucker jumped out of last place in the league.

Tucker would end the day with an Interleague matchup against Ty Buttery of the Los Angeles Angels. After dropping each of his last four games, Tucker was looking for a positive note to end his day on. He started the game off with a bang as Adam Frazier smacked a two-run double down the left field line to get Tucker out to a 2-0 lead. Trevor Williams got the start and pitched well allowing just one hit over his two innings of work and that would be the only base runner he had to deal with throughout the day. Michael Feliz would then come on to close things down in the third and, after allowing a two out hit, he retired the side giving Tucker the 2-0 win.

The win moved Tucker to 4-17 in the tournament and broke a four game losing streak. He now has a two game lead over Rodriguez keeping him out of the basement of the league. While Tucker won't be playing in the playoffs at week's end, he has a chance to play spoiler for some of the top teams in the tournament. Of his eight games remaining, four are against one of the top eight players in the MLB The Show 20 Players tournament. No matter what happens, Tucker is sure to create some highlight real moments and give us some hilarious reactions.

Tucker returns to action tonight with a tournament high five game slate of games, allowing him a chance to increase that win total. He will take on Joey Gallo (TEX), Lance McCullers Jr. (HOU), Carl Edwards Jr. (SEA), Carlos Santana (CLE), and Bo Bichette (TOR). The games kick off at 9 p.m. and you can follow Tucker's tournament journey here and watch the games live on his twitch channel at https://m.twitch.tv/cotuck.
