First Round of Spring Cuts Not Full of Many Surprises

Image
Tuesday night was the first big date on the Spring Training calendar as teams made their first cuts of the season. For the Pirates, many of the names who were cut aren't surprising as they head to Minor League camp to continue to get their work in. Every player on the Pittsburgh Pirates Spring Training roster had their minds set on yesterday night. It was the first day of cuts as the Pirates had to trim down their roarer, or else risk using a player's MLB service time. After last night, any player who gets injured in a Spring Training game would have to be placed on the Major League Injured list, using their MLB service time. Overall, the Pirates ended up cutting a total of five from the 40-man roster and 10 of their non-roster invitees, sending those players to Minor League camp. Many of these names, like Quinn Priester, Nick Gonzalez, and Cody Bolton were not very surprising. There was little playing time to go around for these players, and they would get more opp...

Big Innings Hurting The Pirates And How To Avoid Them

The Pirates have now lost their last three spring training games and have moved to 7-7-1 on the season. The recurring theme in each of these games is the ...

Today, we look at the takeaways from this first game as the Pirates continue to prepare for the 2021 season. Baseball is back!! For the first time since September 28th, 2020, the Pittsburgh Pirates took the field against another opponent. They opened up their 2021 Spring Training schedule taking on the Baltimore Orioles and came through with a 6-4 win. The Pirate's offense got going right from the first inning and scored in four of their first five innings to build and hold onto the lead. The Pirates had two home runs, one from Gregory Polanco and the other from Todd Frazier, and featured a starting lineup that looked very similar to what the Pirates could bring out on Opening Day 2021. However, it is only the first game of Spring Training and there are plenty more games to come. First impressions make a big difference, and the first impression of the 2021 Pirates was a pos...
