Little Known Pirates: David Ross
When you think of defensive catchers of the 21st century, one of the names that usually comes up is David Ross. During his younger years, he spent half a season in Pittsburgh before moving on to become a household name. During the 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series run, David Ross went from back-up catcher to household name. Ross played in three games during that World Series and hit .400 with one home run and two RBI. However, that one home run came at one of the best times that it possibly could. Ross came up in Game 7 of the World Series in the top of the 6th with his team-leading 4-3. After falling behind 1-2, Ross smacked a four-seam fastball over the centerfield wall for a solo home run. He became the oldest player to ever hit a home run in Game 7 of a World Series and the Cubs went on to break a 100+ year curse to win the game and become 2016 World Series Champions.
