In just three short seasons, right-handed pitcher Blake Weiman has advanced from short-season ball to Triple-A Indianapolis. Now, he is looking to show that he can be a reliable reliever for the Pirates and a major part of the Big League bullpen. When you think of Pittsburgh Pirates relief pitching prospects, there are a few names that come to mind. Some of those names include Blake Cederlind, Braeden Ogle, and Matt Eckelman are just some of the names that come to mind. However, one Pirates relief prospect is trying to make a name for himself this season and breakthrough at the Big League level. 25-year-old Blake Weiman made the climb from short-season ball to Triple-A Indianapolis in just three seasons. He had success at almost every level, but his momentum was put on hold during the 2020 Minor League season cancellation. The 2020 Rule 5 Draft is scheduled to take place on December 10th, 2020, as part of the Winter Meetings and the Pirates have some interesting prospects eligible. We will break down all the Rule 5 players and whether or not the Pirates should worry about losing them or not. I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. In the 2017 MLB Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates made 40 different selections with 18 of those being pitchers. Of those 40 picks, pitcher Blake Weiman was the first player to reach Double-A, moving up to Altoona in just one season. Fast-forward to 2020, and Weiman is once again leading his class and is knocking on the door to be part of the Pirates bullpen in 2020. It took the University of Kansas alumnus just three seasons to rise through the Minor League system, and he is looking to defy his eighth-round selection and become the first of his class to appear in an MLB game. After starting the 2019 season in Double-A Altoona, Weiman made the jump to Triple-A ...
