Strong 1-2 Punch Developing in Triple-A Indianapolis

Image
With the Pittsburgh Pirates in a rebuild mode, they are going to rely a lot on the depth of their farm system to succeed in the future. There is currently a nice 1-2 punch developing in the Triple-A rotation that could bolster the Pirates rotation sometime this season. We have all heard the old adage that pitching a defense wins championships in baseball. These two areas are where General Manager Ben Cherington has focused most of his resources during this Pirates rebuild. He has brought in a lot of high-upside pitchers, and players who have handled the glove well throughout their careers. Because of his efforts, the Pirates farm system went from one of the worst in Major League Baseball to ranking #7 in the MLB this past off-season. Many of the guys who will impact the next contending Pirates teams are still in the low level of the Minor Leagues. However, there are a pair of pitchers in Triple-A Indianapolis that are putting up good numbers and could impact the team this s...

Rule 5 Draft Prospect Profile: Beau Sulser

The 2020 Rule 5 Draft is scheduled to take place on December 10th, 2020, as part of the Winter Meetings and the Pirates have some interesting prospects eligible. We will break down all the Rule 5 players and whether or not the Pirates should worry about losing them or not. As we await the start of the 2020 MLB season due to Corona Virus concerns, we will take a look at every player on the Pirates roster and outline what they will bring to the table and projections for the 2020 season. I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. Baseball is a game that once someone in the family picks it up, it is usually passed down through the generations. For the Sulser family, they have two sons who have made it to professional baseball and are currently pitching in the Minor Leagues. The first was Cole Sulser, who was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and is currently in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. The other is Pirates pitching prospect Beau Sulser who pitched out of the Altoona Curve bullpen for the majority of the 2019 season. After battling back from elbow surgery during his days in college baseball, Beau Sulser has quickly become one of the best relief pitching prospects in the system...
