Image
The Pittsburgh Pirates head back home as they bring their 10-game losing streak with them to PNC Park. They welcome in the Cleveland Indians for a three-game series as they look to then things around. To say things haven't been going the Pittsburgh Pirates' way as of late would be an understatement. They have currently lost 10-games in a row and just endured their third straight sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals. Their offense has been struggling, scoring four runs or less in all 10 of those games, marking the first time since 1968 that the Pirates lost 10-straight games and scored four runs or less in each of those games. They have dropped to a season-low 21 games under .500 and their inexperience has started to show. However, there are some positive signs like Hayes's hitting, Newman's defense, and Frazier's consistency to get on base. After an off-day on Thursday, the Pirates are looking to hit the reset button when they return to the fri

Pirates and Indians Play for Real This Time: What to Expect

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians kicked off each other's 2020 schedule with a three-game exhibition series. Now, the teams face-off in the regular season with both teams trending in opposite directions. On July 18th, 2020 the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians made a little bit of history for 2020. They were the first two teams in any of the four major sports (MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL) to play a televised game against each other.  It was a chance for America to see baseball again and forget about the craziness that was going on with COVID-19. Here we are exactly one month later, and the two teams are set to battle for the first time in the regular season. Things look very different for both teams since that last meeting, with the Pirates dealing with eight injuries to pitchers and the Indians having to dismiss 2/5th of their rotation for not following the rules. However, the Pirates are trending downward sitting at 4-14 while the Indians are headed towar

All 30 teams are in their summer camps playing mostly interested scrimmages as they prepare for the season. Teams had the option to schedule up to three exhibition games, and the Pittsburgh Pirates took advantage, reigniting a rivalry with Cleveland. They kick off a series of three exhibition games with the Cleveland Indians tomorrow at 7:05 pm and will play them twice more on July 20th and July 22nd. It will be a little different with no fans in the stands, but just to watch a game on TV will be a welcome sight after months of no baseball activities.  At least on paper, the Pirates and Indians look like very similar teams, with a few veteran talents and young stars b

Erik Gonzalez Looking to Redeem Himself in 2020

As we await the start of the 2020 MLB season due to Corona Virus concerns, we will take a look at every player on the Pirates roster and outline what they will bring to the table and projections for the 2020 season. I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. After the departure of Jordy Mercer following the 2018 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates were left with a hole at the Shortstop position. Their internal options included Kevin Newman, Cole Tucker, and Kevin Kramer but, then General Manager Neil Huntington was looking for an external option to take over. That is when he swung a five player deal with the Cleveland Indians that sent Jordan Luplow and Max Moroff to the tribe in return for two minor league pitchers and utility man Erik Gonzalez. Gonzalez was set to battle Newman for the starting Shortstop position in 2019 as he looked to lay claim to his first everyday starting job. In the end, Gonzalez ended up winnin

I hope this brings some positive reading to the current situation and helps us all as we wait for baseball. If you asked people in Pittsburgh to name a "face of the Pittsburgh Pirates," many would probably say Josh Bell. Bell had the best season of his professional career in 2019 and earned his first ever MLB National League All-Star team. As we get ready for the 2020 season, Bell is looking to take that next step and become a household name across the country. Entering 2019, one scout said "Josh Bell can't play. He's not a good defender. He is a big lump. Supposedly he is a big power threat, but he hit 12 home runs at first base." Bell ended up giving his critics a big I told you so hitting .277 with 37 home runs and 116 RBI.

Entering 2020, the Pittsburgh Pirates Infielders are one of the most intriguing groups on the field. Each is coming into their prime and looking for a breakout season in 2020. One of the most exciting position groups on the field for the Pittsburgh Pirates is their infielders. All four starters have shown flashes of greatness and 2020 is the year for them to put it all together. Whether it be veteran first baseman Josh Bell or second-year player Kevin Newman, each proved they can play everyday and be successful. Leading the group is Josh Bell who had a breakout 2020 season in every major statistical category. In 143 games Bell set new career highs hitting .277 with 37 home runs and 116 RBI. It was a historic start to the season for Bell who in the first two months of the season hit 22 of his 37 home runs while batting .346. However, things went off the deep end for Bell in June when he hit just .208 and was never able to get back to form. Despite the slump, Bell earned h
