The Pittsburgh Pirates made a flurry of moves to clear space on their 40-man roster this weekend. Here are all the guys outright and what other moves you may have missed as the first full weekend of the off-season has passed us by. The first weekend of the 2020 - 2021 off-season has come and gone and, as expected,  the Pirates have been a very active bunch. The big moves of the weekend came when the club declined Chris Archer's club option, the claiming of Michael Perez, and the DFA'ing Nick Burdi, more on that to come later in the week. The Pittsburgh Pirates faced a lot of injuries in 2020 and ended the year with 11 players on the injured list. However, now the Pirates have to face the tough questions of who gets DFA'd and who remains on the 40-man roster. In each of the last two seasons, injuries had been a big part of the Pirates season. Several key players spent time on the injures list and the effects of these losses were felt on the field. It forced players to be thrust into new roles and young guys were called up too early. 2020 saw the injury bug strike before the shortened season even began. Jameson Taillon has been out with Tommy John Surgery since last July and Chris Archer went down in June after requiring Thoracic Outlet Surgery. Here is what the future looks like for the 24-year old outfielder as the 2020 season gets set to head into its final month. When you think of the Pittsburgh Pirates outfield of the future, there are many different names that end up coming to mind. You usually think of guys like Jared Oliva and Travis Swaggerty as the future in the outfield, but many forget about 24-year-old outfielder Jason Martin. Martin came over as part of the Gerrit Cole trade in 2018, and the Pirates got a glimpse of what the young outfielder could do last season. He was the first prospect called up when Lonnie Chisenhall disappeared off the face of the Earth, and he got a chance to start in left field right from the get-go. Of the four players acquirred in the deal that sent Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros, the one fans probably didn't know much about was prospect Jason Martin. He was just a double A outfielder when he came to the Pirates in 2018 and had a lot of room to develop. However, he was the first Pirates prospect called up to the show and he made an immediate impact in his first couple games. He helped the Pirates in a time of need, and now has all the tools he needs for success as he continued to develop in Triple A.
