Pittsburgh Pirates Add Ildemaro Vargas to Major League Infield Mix
The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to use the waiver wire to their advantage lately, as Ben Cherington made another acquisition. This time, the Pirates General Manager is rolling the dice on five-year Major League veteran Ildemaro Vargas. In his first full season as Pittsburgh Pirates General Manager, Ben Cherington is beginning to show his tendencies. One thing we have seen from him that we didn't really see from the last regime is his active use of the waiver wire. In total so far this season, Cherington has made three waiver claims since the start of the season, and four total since Spring Training started. The first three claims were Dustin Fowler, Ka'ai Tom, and Ben Gamel with two of those three players currently on the active roster.
