Feature Friday: The Beginnings of Baseball in the Steel City
This is part one of a series looking at how the Pittsburgh Pirates became the baseball team that they are today. The history of the organization is filled with its highest highs and lowest lows all leading up to where we are today with our beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. No matter the circumstances we are always ready to root for our Pirates. Baseball has a long and storied tradition in the city of Pittsburgh dating back before the Pittsburgh Pirates as we know them today were even a franchise. In fact, baseball first took root in Pittsburgh right after the Civil War when three different teams played across the Pittsburgh area. The three teams were the "Enterprise", "Olympic", and "Xantha" teams and they all played at Union Park located in Allegheny, PA., which would be known as Pittsburgh starting in 1907.
