We continue our Pirates ranking series taking a look at the top five starting pitchers since the 2000 series. A lot of pitchers went through one-hit-wonder years with the Pirates, but this list takes a look at the best careers in a Pirates uniform rather than best results in a single season. Since the 2000 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates have seen many starting pitchers come and go throughout the organization. From the dog days of the 21 year losing streak to becoming a playoff-caliber team, many names have appeared on the PNC Park and Three Rivers Stadium mound. Guys like Oliver Perez, James McDonald, Jeff Locke, and Joe Beimel all had one-hit-wonder years, but none of those names are on this list. Of the four players acquirred in the deal that sent Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros, the one fans probably didn't know much about was prospect Jason Martin. He was just a double A outfielder when he came to the Pirates in 2018 and had a lot of room to develop. However, he was the first Pirates prospect called up to the show and he made an immediate impact in his first couple games. He helped the Pirates in a time of need, and now has all the tools he needs for success as he continued to develop in Triple A. At one time, Clay Holmes was a highly touted prospect that was going to be a part of a young dominant Pittsburgh Pirates starting rotation. He was ranked #10 in the Pirates system entering the 2012 season and was set to join the likes of Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon, and Tyler Glasnow as the next generation of young Pirates starting pitching.
