Free Agent Friday: C Tyler Flowers
With the catching depth of the Pittsburgh Pirates at an all-time low, one of the things on the Pirates to-do list is finding a back-up catcher for Jacob Stallings. Veteran free-agent Tyler Flowers could fill that role and add some pop to the Pirates bench. During the 2020 season, the Pittsburgh Pirates catching situation was completely up in the air. Jacob Stallings was penciled in as the starting catcher, but he had no experience starting at the Major League level, and the back-up was a toss-up between John Ryan Murphy and Luke Maile. Stalin's proved himself as a viable starting catching option and even finished in the running for the Gold Glove award. However, Murphy and Maile were both DFA'd and have been outrighted to the Minor Leagues. They are going to compete with new catcher Michael Perez for the back-up catcher spot a veteran option might be what the Pirates need to help Stallings get to the next level.
