Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants: Round 2

Image
Coming off a sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Pittsburgh Pirates limp into San Francisco looking for a turnaround. After splitting a series at PNC Park earlier in the year, the Pirates are hoping to bring some of that magic to San Francisco. After winning or trying three straight series against the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, the Pittsburgh Pirates headed into Arizona looking to sweep the worst team in baseball. However, the Diamondbacks have had the Pirates number over the last several seasons, and not only did the Pirates not sweep the Diamondbacks, but they got swept themselves. The pitching faltered and the offense just had no answers as they were outscored 21-12 in the three-game series. It took all the momentum that the Pirates had, and shot it to the ground as the Pirates now have to limp into San Francisco. However, it was a similar scenario to what happened when a hot San Francisco Giamts team came into PNC Park early in the year. The Giant...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Arizona Diamondbacks: What to Expect

Image
After taking two out of three from the New York Mets, the Pittsburgh Pirates head to the desert to face the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Pirates hope to keep things rolling against a team they haven't seen since 2019. Coming into this season, many people around baseball expected the Pittsburgh Pirates to be hands down the worst team in the league. However, after 93 games this season, the Pirates are sitting higher than a lot of people thought at 36-57, but are still in last place in the National League Central. However, they have momentum on their side after taking two of three from the New York Mets and they haven't lost a series since they dropped two out of three to the Milwaukee Brewers from July 2nd through July 4th. The Pirates are hoping to keep that momentum going as they head on the road to visit one of the few teams this season with a record worse than the Pirates. The Arizona Diamondbacks currently sit at an MLB worst 27-68 and are coming off of a series los...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets Round 2: What to Expect

Image
The Pittsburgh Pirates open the second half of their 2021 season as their series shifts to PNC Park. The Pirates are aiming for a season series win in the final three meetings with the Mets this season. As the second half of the season is set to get underway tonight, it will start the same way the first half ended. Before the All-Star break, the Pirates were getting some good starting pitching, and as a result, we're finding more success on the field. They went 4-3 in their final seven games before the break and earned a series win over the Atlanta Braves and a series split with these same New York Mets. Both teams are in the battle for the NL East crown,  and the Pirates have shown that they can compete with some of the better teams in the league. Now the Pirates will go through a lot of changes over the next few weeks, but right now the young guys are getting some confidence and momentum on their side. However, they come right out of the gate facing those same New Yor...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets: What to Expect

Image
The Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up the first half of the 2021 season when they head to New York for a four-game season against the Mets. It is a battle between two teams on the opposite end of the spectrum heading into the All-Star Break. After a series win against the Atlanta Braves, the Pittsburgh Pirates have won three of their last five games and sit at 32-54 with four games to go before the all-star break. They are hoping to end the first half of the season with some momentum on their side, but to do that they will have to head out on the road, a place that hasn't been too kind to them this season. On the road, the Pirates have a record of 13-29 and both their team batting average (.225) and ERA (5.37) are significantly worse away from PNC Park. Add that with the fact that the Pirates are taking on the leaders of the National League East, and on paper, it looks like a recipe for disaster. It will be the first match-up of the year between the Pirates and the New York Me...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Atlanta Braves Round Two: What to Expect

Image
After rebounding in the final game of the re-opening weekend, the Pirates are looking to bounce back against the Atlanta Braves. After having troubles at SunTrust Park earlier in the year, the Pirates are hoping this one can go their way. The Pittsburgh Pirates re-opened PNC Park to full capacity this weekend with a four-game weekend set against the Milwaukee Brewers. However, things did not go the way the Pirates wanted them to as they ended up dropping three of four in the series, and fell to 30-53 on the season. However, they did bounce back with a nice 2-0 win in the finale, as the Pirates got a strong start from Tyler Anderson, who went seven shutout innings. As the Pirates look to keep things going, it won't be easy as they welcome in the Atlanta Braves, a team they did not have a lot of fun against last time. With just a week's worth of games left before the All-Star break, the Pirates are hoping to get back on track before a much-needed break. However, the l...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers Round 3: What To Expect

Image
It is a big weekend for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they open PNC Park to full capacity when they welcome the Milwaukee Brewers. We look at what to expect in this third match-up of the year as the Pirates are back at home. It has been exactly one year and eight months since PNC Park has been opened to 100% capacity. Their last game with a full audience was on September 29th, 2019, against the Cincinnati Reds. Well, for the first time since that 2019 season, the Pirates are opening the doors to full capacity once again. It is an exciting time for the players, coaches, and fans as a sense of normalcy returns to the city of Pittsburgh. These young players are looking to show what they can do, and for many of them, it will be their first time in front of a full capacity crowd. However, it won't be easy as they welcome in the division leader for a four-game weekend series full of special events. The Milwaukee Brewers make their way to PNC Park for their third match-up of the s...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies Round 2: What to Expect

Image
After earning a series win against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates continue the road trip as they continue to hitter-friendly Coors Field. We look at what to expect as the Pirates take on a Rockies team that has been much better at home this season. Earlier this season, the struggling Pittsburgh Pirates met the Colorado Rockies at PNC Park for a three-game series. The Pirates were in a slump, having lost six games in a row and eight of their last nine games. They needed a turnaround, and a rainout in game one of the series looked to be a bad omen for the Pirate's future. However, the battling Bucs would sweep the Doubleheader the next day and ended up with only their second series win during the entire month of May. The Rockies were a really bad road team, with only three road wins coming into play on May 31st, and the Pirates took advantage picking up some much-needed victories. However, the Pirates now have to head to Coors Field, where the Rockies hav...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals Round 3: What to Expect

Image
After a couple of weeks of playing outside of try division, the Pittsburgh Pirates head on the road to face the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend. They are looking for their first win of the season against St. Louis as they look to keep their roll going. After falling in 10 straight games last week, the Pittsburgh Pirates have bounced back nicely against the American League Central. They went 3-2 on their latest homestand, taking two of three from the Cleveland Indians and splitting a two-game series with the Chicago White Sox. Overall, they have won three of their last five games, and have gotten their record to 26-46. However, they are now heading back to National League Central play and will face divisional opponents in eight of their final 18 games before the all-star break, with all eight of those games being on the road. It all starts with a seven-game, two City Road trip as the Pirates are in a sprint to the July 12th - 15th All-Star Break. However, it won't be an...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago White Sox: What To Expect

Image
Coming off their first series win since June 3rd through the 6th, the Pittsburgh Pirates are looking to keep the momentum going at home. They welcome in the Chicago White Sox for a two-game series as they continue their battle with the AL Central. Coming into this five-game homestand, not much was going right for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They dropped 10 games in a row and went from being a 23-34 team that still looked ok to a 23-44 team that was falling with no way out. However, the Pirates brushed all of that aside and got back on track against the Cleveland Indians. They ended up taking two of three games and welcomed in the largest crowds of the season with some exciting baseball. They now continue to battle the American League Central in Interleague play as they welcome in the division-leading Chicago White Sox. It was the Pirates who helped the White Sox hold onto first place, and now the Pirates will look to help knock the White Sox back down. A lot of the team's s...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Cleveland Indians: What to Expect

Image
The Pittsburgh Pirates head back home as they bring their 10-game losing streak with them to PNC Park. They welcome in the Cleveland Indians for a three-game series as they look to then things around. To say things haven't been going the Pittsburgh Pirates' way as of late would be an understatement. They have currently lost 10-games in a row and just endured their third straight sweep at the hands of the Washington Nationals. Their offense has been struggling, scoring four runs or less in all 10 of those games, marking the first time since 1968 that the Pirates lost 10-straight games and scored four runs or less in each of those games. They have dropped to a season-low 21 games under .500 and their inexperience has started to show. However, there are some positive signs like Hayes's hitting, Newman's defense, and Frazier's consistency to get on base. After an off-day on Thursday, the Pirates are looking to hit the reset button when they return to the fri...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Washington Nationals: What to Expect

Image
It has been a rough go of things lately for the Pirates as they have lost back-to-back series to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers. They are aiming to turn things around as they start their season series against the Washington Nationals. After showing some life against the Miami Marlins in a four-game series at PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates have come back down to Earth as of late. They dropped back-to-back series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers and have lost seven games in a row entering play on Monday. During that stretch, the Pirates record has dropped to 23-41   and after what looked like a promising start, the Pirates are back to where we expected them to be. To make matters worse, Mitch Keller, who hasn't been able to get things going on the mound, was sent down to the Minor Leagues. The offense has shown some spark as of late, but it hasn't been enough with the struggles of the pitching staff. However, the Pirates are looki...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers Round 2: What To Expect

Image
After a rough series against the defending World Series Champions, the Pittsburgh Pirates head on the road to face the Milwaukee Brewers. They are hoping to get back on track against a familiar division opponent. After a tough series against the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, the Pittsburgh Pirates can take solace in the fact that they are heading to a place where they have historically not played very well. It doesn't sound that fun, but it is what the Pirates have to go through as they head to American Family Field in Milwaukee for a three-game weekend series with the Brewers. Surprisingly, this is only the second meeting between these two teams here in late June, as the teams last faced off in the middle of April. That was during a stretch that saw the Pirates start the season 12-11, and perform above and beyond any fan expectations at that point in the year. The Pirates would end up taking two of the three games in that opening series, but a lo...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers: What To Expect

Image
It is the veteran talented team against the young guns as the Pittsburgh Pirates welcome in the defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. They are trying to take advantage of the unknown and surprise the defending champions. A three-game series begins at PNC Park today at 7:05 pm that pits a defending World Series Champion against a team who is looking towards the future in a rebuild mode. It kind of sounds like a match-up between David and Goliath. However, that is the scenario when the Pittsburgh Pirates welcome in the Los Angeles Dodgers for a three-game series at PNC Park. After dropping six games in a row, the Pirates came back strong, winning three out of four games against the Miami Marlins to get their record to 23-35. 58 games into the season, the Pirates are already showing a lot of improvement over last season, and are continuing to look to add more and more talent into the Minor League system. However, they have some exciting players in the Big League...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Miami Marlins: What To Expect

Image
The Pittsburgh Pirates are right back at home after their shortest road trip of the year. They get set to take on the Miami Marlins, as the Pirates look to rebound after a sweep at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds. It is no secret that the month of May was hard for the Pittsburgh Pirates. They finished the month just 8-22, and as a team, they are happy to get the month behind them. They just finished their shortest road trip of the season but ended up getting swept by the Kansas Cott Royals. They return home with a new month and a chance to start a new as players begin to come back from the injured list. The Pirates will welcome in the Miami Marlins for the first time since the 2019 season, and with a new team comes a chance for the Pirates to start over. PNC Park has been a much friendlier venue for the Pirates this season, with half of their wins coming at home with a record of 10-15. There will also be a feeling of excitement in the air at PNC Park as Ke'Bryan Hayes ...
