After struggling for most of the season, Kevin Newman came ready to play in yesterday's doubleheader. He hit four doubles in game one and finished the day 5-7 with the four doubles. Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers split their doubleheader with the Pirates winning game one and the Brewers winning game two. In game one, it was the Pirates offense that came through scoring 14 runs in a 14-4 win, and the Brewers came through with six runs in a 6-0 game two win. The 14 runs scored in game one were a team-high for the Pirates this season and showed what they can do when everyone is hitting on all cylinders. In total, eight of the nine Pirates starters got hits and six of the eight starters had multi-hit games. Yesterday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers were rained out last night, the teams are set to play a doubleheader today starting at 2:30 pm. Mitch Keller is set to start game two, and the rainout may be just what he needed. Yesterday, was a wet day at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers were rained out. I was at the field, and at one point you couldn't see left field when sitting behind the left-field bleachers. Because of this, the Pirates got a day off and will play two seven-inning games today. For Mitch Keller, it means an extra day of rest as he is scheduled to start game two of today's twin bill. It has not been the season that Keller wanted to have in 2021 as he has gone 3-9 with a 7.06 ERA through 14 starts this season. He was sent down to Triple-A Indianapolis to work on some things, but since he has come back not much has changed. After losing seven straight games to the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds, things don't get easier as the Pirates welcome in the Milwaukee Brewers. They hope that they can turn things around, and drop the current division leaders down a peg. The Pittsburgh Pirates have not had an easy go of things lately as they are in the midst of a stretch of 13 straight games against National League Central opponents. It began on August 2nd when the Pirates opened a series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers. During the stretch, they have gone just 1-9, and have dropped each of their last eight games. It has been a combination of faulty pitching, hitting, and relief for the Pirates that has led to an all-around bad brand of baseball. They currently sit 33 games below .500, with a record of 41-74, and are looking to put a stop to this losing streak. The 2021 season has not been kind to Colin Moran with the 28-year-old suffering through two separate stints on the Injured List. Today, we look at whether he is a future piece for this team, or if he is going to end up being a trade piece to continue the rebuild. When you looked at the makeup of the 2021 Pittsburgh Pirates in Spring Training, there were many more questions than answers. However, one of the few positions that didn't have a question surrounding it was first base. Colin Moran emerged as a quality first baseman last season, and after Josh Bell was traded on Christmas Eve, it was clear that it would be Moran manning the position. Moran was one of the few Pirates that had a good season in 2020, hitting .237 with a team-high 10 home runs and 23 RBI in the 60-game season. It has been a wild year for Fabricio Macias, and he is taking advantage of every opportunity. He made the jump from High-A to Triple-A a few weeks ago, and his speed and contact ability may have him knocking on the Major League door. When you look down the Pittsburgh Pirates top 30 prospects list, there are several outfielders that make an appearance. In the top 10, you have Travis Swaggerty and Hudson Head, and in total there are six different true outfielders who make an appearance. However, one name you won't find is Fabricio Macias, but it may be a name you see in Pittsburgh sooner than the rest. However, one inning last night perfectly defined the Pirates season, with success turning into an absolute disaster. Now, no one single inning is going to have an effect on the outcome of the season, but the Pittsburgh Pirates had one last night that certainly summed up how their season has gone. At the beginning of the season, Pirates fans got a taste of what Miguel Yajure could do when he made two Big League starts. Since then, he has been injured and is beginning to work his way back with hopes of a Big League return. While he may not have been the biggest contributor during his time with the Pirates, Jameson Taillon was one of the most liked players on the team. Heading into 2021, he was working his way back from Tommy John surgery and was hoping to make good on the first-round selection that brought him to Pittsburgh in the first place.
